The inspiration for this artwork was a rare series of electron microscope slides that reveal cell division or mitosis as linear chains of chromatides that reproduce themselves as the cell splits. The sculpture has many degrees of transparency, translucency and opacity. It floats in a perfect plane, obliquely slicing through the space. The composition is also influenced by Peruvian tapestry designs and the linear earth diagrams on the plains of Nasca.
